This study investigates the effect of speaking rate variations on the formant frequencies of Persian vowels using acoustic analysis. First, the first through fourth formant frequencies were extracted using long-term analysis techniques. A comparative assessment was conducted across three distinct speaking rates: normal, slow, and fast. Statistical significance of differences between speech rates was evaluated using multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA). Subsequently, a random forest algorithm was utilized to assess the capability of formant frequencies in capturing individual-specific variations across the three speech rates. Based on the results, the second formant frequency demonstrated the most substantial sensitivity to speaking rate modifications. Regarding the role of speaking rate on speaker-specific characteristics of formant frequencies, it was found that at slow speaking rate, first and third formant frequencies exhibited superior performance in distinguishing individual-specific characteristics, whereas in normal and fast speaking rates, third and fourth formant frequencies emerged as more significant indicators of individual variation. These findings indicate that acoustic parameters are affected by speaking rate variations and highlight the necessity of considering this factor in acoustic analyses and speaker identification studies.
